What does the Mer Project actually do?
Firstly, everything we do is freely shared under the terms of an Open Source License - this basically means we give it away for free and you can use it to build your own devices - for example people using the Raspberry Pi, companies that make commercial products such as medical devices, TV set-top-boxes or of course devices running SailfishOS by Jolla
We run as a non profit group and our supporters provide donations for supporting these services.
The project itself:
- Develops the base operating system software for use in devices like phones, tablets, TVs, digital pictureframes and even vehicles - and, we expect, devices that haven't been invented yet.
- Develops tools that companies and groups can use to work with our base software
- Provides services for developing system and application software that anyone can use
- Provides support for learning about Mer
- Fixes problems in Mer
